Anti-Caturday: Here's a llama

… there’s a llama.

Like the camel, the llama is an endlessly useful animal. Llamas and Alpacas have wonderful wool that’s incredibly warm even when it’s very thin. Often people who are allergic to lamb’s wool stand llama wool very well because it’s completely lanolin free.

Unlike camels, llamas are intensely curious, and when raised well, hardly ever spit at humans. They are intensely social animals that hum as a way of communicating with each other. They also bond with other animals and have been used as guard animals against predators since the 1980’s. I know, it sounds ludicrous, but apparently they’re quite effective. They’re naturally alert and will engage predators like coyotes and dogs or even lead their herd away from danger.

I know if I ever lose my head and move to the countryside, I’m totally getting a llama or two.
